Marie, I typed up a long post to you earlier today, the door bell rang (Church people), had to listen...when I came back the whole thing was gone...anywho, any advice for me at the gym...they have everything. Today I did 30 minutes track and 30 minutes elliptical. I really need to step it up. I used to like that machine you could do pull ups on but you put the pin in it so it's not so hard... dunno what it's called..wanna get back on that thing!

Activia light yogurt is good!
and I can't do 2 hours at the gym without eating...sorry
Today I was shoving food in my face as I walked out the door to the gym.
Hi,
Went to post tonight and then my son needed me (that's why the HMMM in post for now). Now not sure what it was going to be. Anyway, do you mean the machine you sort of kneel on and then pull up? Upper body strength is definitely something getting older hit here. I can do a lot more on the legs and ab machines. I found keeping the heart rate up helped me. So I start with cardio then some strength and then back to cardio... Also the stationary bike bumped me up. Had thought I'd like a spin class so was trying to get speed and resistance up with it, but have still been chicken to try the class. With this stall the Pilates instr. thought free weights and floor work might help since they make you work the core and the machines do the core's work. Have a couple of friends that swear by intervals. When I tried it, it did not seem to do much more for me.
Think you should find things you like. I know I have never liked running and when that is in the mix never give it my all. Love the pool work. Had read about running laps (in various ways) in the pool. Plus think the water weights have really helped the arms (just find the upper body work more fun in the pool). Just started some closer to swimming laps that a woman showed me at the pool. One is like a dolphin kick and it works the abs as well as the legs. A few laps and wow.
Looking back I think a blend of flexibilty moves might have been good. The Pilates showed some spots getting tight and that is why I'm adding some yoga and stretches in.
If they have Pilates it is a favorite for me. Love the reformer class. The floor work one is harder in a way. But it hits home. They both get muscles deep in that I do not seem to get doing anything else. Oh I have not done it but my son and some friends are doing this thing with I think medicine balls (at least some kind of weighted balls)and a slanted mini tramp. They say it is a good work out. My son came red faced and sweating after.
The arc trainer is nice for a change. It is a take on the elliptical but seems to hit the tush and back thigh for me.
That's the yogurt my son eats. Just have to get to liking it. Have to admit I don't really get hungry. Not sure if it is YOAD, the meds., or what. It sure has not always been like this. Oops getting late better get back at this tomorrow.
Marie my gym has a machine that will assist you, you kneel or stand on a little platform and your body weight is counterbalanced by the number of weight plates you add to the machine. It's pretty cool, I was really good at that when I went three years ago. So cardio for sure then add weight training?
I have a bad foot so sometimes I can't do all I wanted to.
I take synthroid in the a.m. so it keeps me from taking vitamins or eating and drinking some things with meds.
They do have classes at the Rec. Center but they cost extra and I can't afford it right now.
Thanks for your advice, if you think of anything else, I would be happy to have it.
Have a great day Marie!
Chari
Great work.
